The tip...

This is in response to a "How Do I", specifically, "put a shortcut on my desktop".  There are several ways and if you've found one you like, use it.  I will tell you my favorite.  I click on Start just as always and "navigate" to the program I want on the Desktop.  I then RIGHT click and DRAG (holding the right mouse button) the program's icon onto the Desktop.  When you release the button a pop menu will appear and ask you if you want to Move, Copy or Create a Shortcut.  Select (left click) Create a Shortcut and it is done.  Remember, Windows assumes that if you LEFT click and drag you want to MOVE.  This will put the program on your desktop but it will remove it from the Start bar tree.
